Ainsworth Rand Spofford (1825–1908)

Spofford, Ainsworth Rand. An American bibliographer and librarian; born in Gilmanton, NH, Sept. 12, 1825; died on Aug. 11, 1908. He was long in charge of the Congressional Library. He published: ‘The American Almanac,’ etc. (annually after 1878); and with others edited: ‘Library of Choice Literature’ (10 vols., Philadelphia, 1881–88); ‘Library of Wit and Humor’ (5 vols., 1884); and ‘A Practical Manual of Parliamentary Rules’ (1884).
