Francis Thompson (1859–1907)

Thompson, Francis. An English poet; born Dec. 16, 1859; died in 1907. He was educated at Ushaw College, near Durham, and studied medicine at Owens College, Manchester. He determined to take up literature, however, and came to London. His first appearance in print was in the columns of Merry England. Collected volumes have appeared as follows: ‘Poems’ (1893); ‘Sister-Songs’ (1896); ‘New Poems’ (1897). (See Critical and Biographical Introduction).
