Rudolphe Töpffer (1799–1846)
Toppfer (or Töpffer), Rudolphe (tōp’fãr). A Swiss littérateur; born at Geneva, Feb. 17, 1799; died on June 8, 1846. His father was a painter, and he wished to be one also, but an affection of the eyes prevented. He wrote: ‘Zigzag Tours’ (1843); ‘The Heritage’ (1834); ‘Rosa and Gertrude’ (1846); ‘Travels and Adventures of Dr. Festus’ (1840); etc.
