Bartolomé de Torres Naharro (Sixteenth Century)

Torres Naharro, Bartolomé de (nä-är’ō). A Spanish dramatist who flourished in the sixteenth century. He was a cleric but his career otherwise is little known. His pieces are among the earliest specimens of Spanish drama. The best are probably ‘Soldadesca’ (Soldiery), and the ‘Tinelaria.’ The ‘Propaladia’ was condemned by the Inquisition.
