Mary Ashley Townsend (1836–1901)

Townsend, Mrs. Mary Ashley [“Xariffa”]. An American poet and author; born in Lyons, NY, about 1836; died on June 14, 1901. She published: ‘Xariffa’s Poems’; ‘The Brother Clerks’ (1859); ‘Poems’ (1870); ‘The Captain’s Story’ (1874); ‘Down the Bayou,’ etc. (1884).
