Crawford Howell Toy (1836–1919)

Toy, Crawford Howell. An American Unitarian clergyman and scholar; born in Norfolk, VA, March 23, 1836; died in 1919. He was professor of Hebrew at Harvard University after 1880. He wrote: ‘History of the Religion of Israel’ (1882); ‘Quotations in the New Testament’ (1884); ‘Commentary on Proverbs’ (1889): Judaism and Christianity: Progress of Thought from the Old Testament to the New’ (1890); ‘Introduction to the History of Religions’ (1913).
