James Hammond Trumbull (1821–1897)

Trumbull, James Hammond. An American philologist and librarian, brother of H. C.; born in Stonington, CT, Dec. 20, 1821; died in Hartford, Aug. 5, 1897. He was Secretary of State of Connecticut (1861–64). Among his works are: ‘The Colonial Records of Connecticut’ (1850–59); ‘Historical Notes on some Provisions of the Connecticut Statutes’ (1860–61); ‘The Composition of Indian Geographical Names’ (1870); ‘Historical Notes on the Constitution of Connecticut’ (1872); ‘The True Blue-Laws of Connecticut,’ etc. (1876). He edited ‘The Memorial History of Hartford County’ (1886).
