Friedrich August Ukert (1780–1851)

Ukert, Friedrich August (ö’kãrt). A German classical scholar; born at Eutin in Lubeck, 1780; died in 1851. Among his writings are: ‘How the Ancients Determined Distances’ (1813); ‘Homer’s Geography’ (1815); ‘Geography of the Greeks and Romans’ (3 vols., 1816–46); ‘Demons, Heroes, and Genii’ (1850).
