Sir Charles Waldstein (1856–1927)
Waldstein, Sir Charles. An archæologist and writer; born in New York, March 30, 1856, and graduated at Columbia College; died in 1927. He was Slade professor of fine arts Cambridge University, England (1895–1911). He wrote: ‘Excavations at the Heraion of Argos’; ‘The Balance of Emotion and Intellect’; ‘Essays on the Art of Phidias’; ‘The Work of John Ruskin’; ‘Study of Art in Universities’; ‘The Argive Haræum’; ‘Greek Sculpture in Its Relation to Modern Art’ (1913); ‘Aristo-democracy’ (1916).
