William Walker (1824–1860)

Walker, William. An American adventurer; born in Nashville, TN, May 8, 1824; shot at Trujillo, Honduras, Sept. 12, 1860. In 1853 organized an expedition against Sonora, Mexico, but was defeated. He landed in Nicaragua in 1855 with 62 followers, captured the city of Granada, and established a government; but surrendered to the U.S. government in May 1857. In June 1860 he invaded Honduras, was captured, tried by court-martial, and shot. He published ‘The War in Nicaragua’ (1860).
