John Webster (c. 1580–1634)

Webster, John. An English dramatist; born near the end of the sixteenth century. He helped Dekker, Chettle, Drayton, Marston, Rowley, Middleton, Munday, and Heywood in writing some of their plays. Some of his own dramas are: ‘The White Devil; or, Vittoria Corombona’ (1612); ‘The Duchess of Malfi’ (1623); ‘Appius and Virginia’ (1624); and ‘The Devil’s Law Case.’ (See Critical and Biographical Introduction).
