Lorenz von Westenrieder (1748–1829)

Westenrieder, Lorenz von (vest’en-rē-der). A German historian; born at Munich, Aug. 1, 1748; died there, March 15, 1829. He was professor of poetry at Landshut, 1774; and of rhetoric at Munich, 1776. He did much for the elevation of the German language. He wrote ‘History of Bavaria’ (2 vols., 1785); ‘Contribution to the National History, Geography, Statistics, and Agriculture’ (10 vols., 1785–1817); etc.
