Alexander Alexandrovich Bestuzhev (1797–1837)
Bestuzhev, Alexander Alexandrovich (bes-tö’zhef or bes-tö’shef). A Russian novelist and soldier; born in St. Petersburg, Nov. 3, 1797 (not in 1795); killed in battle in the Caucasus, July 19, 1837. Of his numerous novels the most celebrated are: ‘Ammalat-Beg’; ‘The Nadeshda Frigate’; ‘The Terrible Prophecy.’ His ‘Private Correspondence’ is highly prized.
