Anne Kingsmill Finch, Countess of Winchelsea (1661–1720)

Winchelsea, Anne Kingsmill Finch, Countess of. An English poet; born near Southampton, April 1661; died at London, Aug. 5, 1720. She published ‘The Spleen’ (1701) and ‘Poems’ (1713). Her present reputation rests chiefly on Wordsworth’s praise of her ‘Nocturnal Reverie’ for its sympathy with external nature.
