Karl Gottlob Zumpt (1792–1849)

Zumpt, Karl Gottlob (tsömpt). A German classical philologist; born at Berlin, March 20, 1792; died at Karlsbad, June 25, 1849. He was appointed professor of Roman literature in the University of Berlin, 1836. His greatest work, the ‘Latin Grammar’ (1818), was translated into English, and is the basis of several of the Latin grammars since compiled for the use of schools. He also prepared annotated editions of several of the Latin classics; and wrote numerous monographs.
