Hugh Blair (1718–1800)

Blair, Hugh. A Scotch divine, sermonist, and educational writer; born in Edinburgh, 1718; died in 1800. He was noted for the eloquence of his sermons, and also for ‘Lectures on Rhetoric’ (1783) which attained great popularity, ‘Blair’s Rhetoric’ being familiar to all students.
