John Gardiner Calkins Brainard (1795–1828)

Brainard, John Gardiner Calkins. An American poet; born in New London, CT, Oct. 21, 1796; died there, Sept. 26, 1828. After graduation at Yale in 1815, he went to Hartford in 1822 and took charge of the Connecticut Mirror. His poems were published in 1825; the third edition, called ‘Literary Remains, was edited with a biography by John G. Whittier (1832).
