William Francis Ainsworth (1807–1896)

Ainsworth, William Francis. An English naturalist and writer of travels; born at Exeter, Nov. 9, 1807; died on Nov. 27, 1896. His chief works are: ‘Researches in Assyria, Babylonia, etc.’ (1838); ‘Travels and Researches in Asia Minor, Mesopotamia, etc.’ (1842); ‘Travels in the Track of the 10,000 Greeks’ (1844); ‘Wanderings in Every Clime’ (1870); ‘A Personal Narrative of the Euphrates Expedition’ (2 vols., 1888).
