William H. Burleigh (1812–1871)

Burleigh, William Henry. An American journalist, lecturer, and poet; born in Woodstock, CT, Feb. 2, 1812; died in Brooklyn, NY, March 18, 1871. He lectured extensively in behalf of the antislavery movement. In 1843 he became editor of the Charter Oak, of Hartford, CT. A collection of his poems was published in 1840.
