Butler, Nicholas Murray. An American educator, president of Columbia University 1902 to 1945; born at Elizabeth, NJ, April 2, 1862; died in 1947. He published several collections of essays and addresses, among them: ‘The Meaning of Education’; ‘True and False Democracy’; ‘The International Mind.’
