Alfred Edersheim (1825–1889)
Edersheim, Alfred (ē’ders-hīm). A Jewish-Christian Biblical writer; born at Vienna, 1825; died at Mentone, France, March 16, 1889. From the universities of Vienna and Berlin he passed to that of Edinburgh, where he studied theology and became a minister of the Scotch Free Church. He wrote a ‘Bible History’ (7 vols.); ‘Sketches of Jewish Social Life in the Days of Christ’; ‘History of the Jewish Nation after the Destruction of Jerusalem by Titus’; ‘Life and Times of Jesus the Messiah.’ (See Critical and Biographical Introduction).
