Auguste Comte (1798–1857)

Comte, Auguste (kôt). A noted French philosopher, founder of the Positive Philosophy; born at Montpellier, Jan. 19, 1798; died at Paris, Sept. 5, 1857. His ‘Positive Polity’ (1822), ‘Positive Philosophy’ (1830–42), and ‘Positive Catechism’ (1852) embody his teachings. (See Critical and Biographical Introduction).
