Washington, Booker Taliaferro. An American author of African descent, and principal of the Tuskegee Normal Institute; born near Hale’s Ford, VA, 1856; died on Nov. 14, 1915. Distinguished as a writer and speaker on racial and educational subjects; among his published works are ‘Sowing and Reaping’ (1900); ‘Up from Slavery’ (1901); ‘Character Building’; ‘The Negro in Business.’
