Edward Eggleston (1837–1902)

Eggleston, Edward. An American historian and novelist; born in Vevay, IN, Dec. 10, 1837; died at Lake George, Sept. 2, 1902. In fiction he achieved celebrity with stories of life in Southern Indiana in pioneer days, while as a historian he makes a specialty of American subjects. His works include: ‘The Hoosier Schoolmaster’; ‘The End of the World’; ‘The Circuit Rider’; ‘Roxy’; ‘The Graysons’; ‘The Faith Doctor’; ‘The Hoosier Schoolboy’; ‘Queer Stories for Boys and Girls’; ‘Schoolmaster’s Stories’; ‘Mr. Blake’s Walking-Stick’; ‘Duffels’; ‘School History of the United States’; ‘Household History of the United States,’ ‘First Book in American History’; ‘The Beginners of a Nation,’ the first volume of a ‘History of Life in the United States’; etc. (See Critical and Biographical Introduction).
