Friedrich Chrysander (1826–1901)

Chrysander, Friedrich (kris-än’der). A German historian of music; born at Lübtheen, Mecklenburg, July 8, 1826; died at Bergersdorf, Sept. 4, 1901. He was an authority on the annals and epochs of music, a biography of Handel (1858–67), being his masterpiece. He also wrote many critical papers on the oratorio and other forms, in addition to editing musical periodicals.
