Gouverneur Kemble Warren (1830–1882)

Warren, Gouverneur Kemble. An American general; born in Cold Spring, NY, Jan. 8, 1830; died in Newport, RI, Aug. 8, 1882. He graduated at West Point in 1850. He was a member of many scientific associations, and contributed to their journals. His published works include: ‘Explorations in the Dacota Country’ (1855–56); ‘Explorations in Nebraska and Dakota’ (1858); and a pamphlet, ‘The Battle of Five Forks’ (1866), in which he had a notable part.
