James Florant Meline (1811–1873)

Meline, James Florant. An American historical writer; born at Sackett’s Harbor, NY, 1811; died in Brooklyn, NY, Aug. 14, 1873. Most noted of his works are: ‘Two Thousand Miles on Horseback’ (1867); ‘Mary Queen of Scots, and her Latest English Historian,’ an attack upon Froude’s view of the subject; and ‘Life of Sixtus the Fifth’ (1871).
