John Doran (1807–1878)

Doran, John. An English essayist and critic; born in London, March 11, 1807; died there, Jan. 25, 1878. He wrote ‘The Wandering Jew’ when he was fifteen, and the Surrey Theatre staged it. His maturer performances, ‘Table Traits and Something on Them’ (1854), ‘New Pictures and Old Panels’ (1859), and a ‘History of Court Fools’ (1858), have merit.
