John Guy Vassar (1811–1888)

Vassar, John Guy. An American philanthropist, nephew of Matthew Vassar, the founder of Vassar College; born in Poughkeepsie, NY, June 15, 1811; died there, Oct. 27, 1888. He was one of the trustees of Vassar College; traveled extensively, and wrote: ‘Twenty Years around the World’ (1861).
