Jules Sylvain Zeller (1819–1900)

Zeller, Jules Sylvain (zel-lãr’). A French historian; born at Paris, April 23, 1819; died there, July 25, 1900. He became professor of history in the Polytechnic School in 1863, and inspector of higher education in 1876. Among his works are: ‘The Roman Emperors: Characters and Portraits’ (1863); ‘History of Germany’ (1872–91); ‘The Tribunes and the Revolutions in Italy’ (1873); ‘Pius IX. and Victor Emmanuel: Contemporary History of Italy’ (1879); ‘Short History of Italy, from the Fall of the Roman Empire to our Time’ (4th ed. 1886).
