Marquis de Condorcet (1743–1794)

Condorcet, Marie Jean Antoine Nicolas Caritat, Marquis de (ko-dor-sā’). An illustrious French mathematician, philosopher, and economist; born at Ribemont, Picardy, Sept. 17, 1743; died at Bourg-la-Reine, March 28, 1794. He was one of the conspicuous figures of the French Revolution, and killed himself in prison. ‘Historical Sketch of the Progress of the Human Mind’ (1795) is his greatest work.
