Pierce Egan, the Younger (1814–1880)

Egan, Pierce, the Younger. An English novelist, son of Pierce the Elder; born in London, 1814; died there, July 6, 1880. At first an artist, he turned to fiction, winning fame with ‘Robin Hood’ (1840), ‘Wat Tyler’ (1841), and similarly conceived romances; while his later and more sensational tales, ‘Imogen,’ ‘Fair Lilias,’ and others, appeared for the most part as serials only.
