Sir Tobie Matthew (1577–1655)

Matthew, Sir Tobie. An English courtier, diplomat, and writer; born at Salisbury, 1577; died in 1655. He was famed for amiability, and for a series of letters published posthumously under the title ‘A Collection of Letters made by Sr. Tobie Mat[t]hew, Kt., with a Character of the Most Excellent Lady Lucy’ (1660).
