Rahiki, of Constantinople

Poems from Oriental Languages: Cast Not Pearls Before Swine

(Turkish—Sixteenth Century)

Translation in Dublin University Magazine

FAIREST in ten thousand, list and be admonished!

Walk not forth at evening: wherefore let thy light fall

Where none comprehend its wondrous loveliness?

Those thy beauty dazzles will be so astonished

When they see the sun thus shining after nightfall,

That they may arraign thee as a sorceress.
