After this semester of English 102, at Bristol Community College I feel that I have gained the skill to articulate what I want to convey to the reader in many ways. I don’t just look at grammatical error, but instead I look for ways to make my sentences more effective and concise. Nevertheless, I hope that this strategy will continue to help me improve my writing even further on in the future. My strong points as a reader have also definitely improved after reading the poems and stories we experienced this semester. Writing has been an important form of expression for me. I find myself to be very soft spoken and speaking verbally is usually difficult for me because I can’t always seem to find the right words to say. I feel that I am more expressive and have more control over what I want to say. While this semester progressed toward its end, I have learned new writing skills and gradually learned how to engage with audiences. This skill was very useful in meeting my course goals in English 102. I believe that I have grown at organization and careful stream my thoughts as well. Before I would just begin writing my papers without any plans or organization, along with no definite idea of where I would be going with the assignments, but throughout this course I’ve learned that you should base your paper around your thesis statement. Another skill I took from this class was to value my classmate’s responses, from their reactions made me much more aware that my main ideas
A good writer is someone who knows how to write well, have ideas to put on paper and write a well-organized essay that answers the question that a professor gives to you. I identify my own writing by not being good because I have issues sometimes getting words on paper, organizing the essay and my grammar is not very well. The methods that are effective for improving my own writing is practice writing and have someone proof read my work. I am in COM100L because my grammar is not good and my writing on paper is all over the place. My expectation for this course is to improve my grammar when I write essays and fix my mistakes when I write.
At first, I had major difficulty knowing where to begin. This was especially difficult when, I was writing my paper personal grudges. I’m a very private person and, for that reason, I really had difficulty opening up to the audience. I found the best thing I could do to write down all of my ideas, without any real direction. I would write for a couple of hours. I would then leave it and come back the next day. The following day, I would edit it and, develop my thesis. When I proofread my papers, they always seemed out of order. Upon realization of this, I began to cut and paste my ideas, all around the essay, until I found the correct place. This was of great help and my assignments started to improve. I really turned a corner in my paper addiction. I found my voice and really opened up to the reader. I was brutally
Writing Is a kind of typing symbols, letters and other writing tools to help the writer communicate with the reader or connect his ideas. It is the fourth skill in language skills and the most one that needs creation and imagination. In this essay, I am going to write about the importance of developing writing.
The past two semesters were great experiences. Within this past school year my knowledge as a reader and writer has improved. It felt like it was just yesterday, when I had a lot of difficulty writing and poor reading strategies. Now, as I said before, I am an improved writer and reader. The assignments and class activities over the two semesters were great benefits to me, and helped me make progress towards the first year learning goals.
Over the course of this semester, my confidence in writing has improved greatly. In high school, I didn’t really know how to write effectively. I wasn’t really sure what was considered to be “good writing” until I took AP* English. However, even while I was taking this “Advanced Placement” class, I was still trying to figure out how to really create “good writing”. I feel as if this had something to do with the fact that I never really had to work with the rules of grammar intensively. After taking this course, however, I now have a much better understanding of how to correctly use proper grammar. I also improved on using transitional phrases in my writing. I have implemented my understanding of proper grammar and transitional phrases in both my writing inside and outside of this class as a result.
The last time i wrote an essay or any academic writing was when i was in high school. Aside that te only writing i ave been involved in was for job application for in which i have already prepared. My writing has improved so much. MY vocabulary, how to start and introduction, how to write the body, how to conclude has all changed. I have learn summarizing my essays 250-300 words and I have I tackle each assignmenet with different pespective and it should come from me without any plagiarism. This is the first time my writings has to be free from plagiarism as it is not taken seriously before from my background. My writings has improved from everything coming from within and learning how to write it according to the Rubric. It is also new to
I think there are some areas that still needs to be improved in my writing. For example, I have always struggled with reaching the minimum length of the essays that I have written in this semester. I also need to work faster on my assignments, and mapping out a timetable would be great solution in order to finish on time.
This portfolio is a great example of how I improved as a writer. This second semester of duel enrollment English has helped me improve not only on becoming a better writer but as well as becoming more mature as a person and has helped me with time management. This portfolio includes the three best pieces that I have written this whole year. I hope you enjoy these pieces as much as I enjoy them.
I believe that my writing has improved, because now I have direction to start to write as prewriting, clustering, summarizing and making list and my ideas come out easily. However some topic can be harder that other for that reason you have to apply all the grammar rules. Furthermore I learned that the peer review is helpful to enlarge the ideas, because is based in other opinion before the reader sees it. In the past I didn’t like write much but now that I have the rules how write and how easy can be I enjoy write and the same time improve my grammar and my vocabulary expands. Therefore the oral presentation can be more fluent and I can have connection with the audience. In conclusion the reason I say that my writing had improve because
Throughout the year, my scores in writing have gone up and down but has shown a general increase. My current writing average is higher than my writing average at the beginning of the year which shows my improvement. My biggest problems in my writing have been MLA formatting, grammar mistakes, and commentary. At first, I made MLA formatting mistakes constantly with my margins, contractions, spacing, and headers. My first few writing assignments were filled with MLA formatting errors but over time, as I lost points from MLA formatting errors, I learned to avoid them. Now, I do not get marked off for MLA formatting at all. My grammar mistakes have always existed in my writing assignments but I’ve seen a slight, steady decrease in the number of
Over the past semester my writing has improved in three specific areas: extending the length of my writing so that it is more than just 300 words per piece of writing. Clarifying and giving my writing more detail so that it is easier to understand and follow. And finally by improving my spelling and punctuation throughout my piece instead of just spell checking the first few paragraphs.
The three writing principles I would most like to improve are short sentence usage, limit prepositional phrases, and avoid redundancy. I am consistently extending my sentences and combining what could be two sentences or perhaps even three, However, know that I am aware that readers comprehend shorter sentences better I will strive to short the length (Cardon, 2013). However, I will be mindful not to make my writing too broken up.
My writing skills which I have worked on over the few months I have been in English 102 have changed quite a bit in my opinion. There are many things which I have improved upon that were amongst my weaker writing skills when the year began. On the opposite side of that point, there are also many things which I still need to improve upon if I want to truly elevate my writing to a level that I will be confident in. Finally, I have gained new skills outside of writing from this class, particularly the activities which we did in class at various points throughout the year. These things all cumulate together to give me an appreciation of English courses which I did not previously have.
Throughout this summer course, I have acquired many new skills that will be useful in the future. Reading class has helped me to become a college freshmen at Central Connecticut State University this fall. It was an important opportunity for me in a variety of ways in gaining and sharpening skills in writing and reading. It was a great learning experience for me. Especially, that I did not like to read or write before, but after I had this class, it teaches me the skills of reading, writing, and how to study for quizzes, tests, and do projects. I had learned so many new things about writing and reading in general and my own style. I gained skills that I use in my writings now that make my work better.
Over the course of this past semester, my ability to write has improved tremendously. Prior to undertaking this course, my expertise in writing was not as fine-tuned as it should have been. I had never previously been enrolled in a class specifically tailored to writing-- which was quite clear. Upon reading my past works, it becomes apparent that my writing style consisted of fluff, small words, and inconsistently structured sentences. These problems have, for the most part, been remedied with the coursework I have tackled in College Writing. Rather than long, drawn out papers that take an eternity to reach the primary point, my recent work is much nicer in terms of composition and grammar. I credit these improvements to the three primary
