Burden (2003) describes an effective classroom manager to follow the seven (7) areas of responsibility in a classroom management: Teachers select a philosophical model of classroom management and discipline. There are different theoretical models that are useful to teachers because they offer a basis for analysing, understanding, and managing student and teacher behaviour. Teachers organize the physical environment. The way the desks, tables, and other classroom materials are arranged affects instruction and has an influence on order in the classroom. The decision of a teacher in organizing and arranging the classroom materials, supplies, designated place for activities and bulletin board will determine the effectiveness of the learning environment. A teacher should teach, demonstrate, establish, and enforce classroom procedures and routines at the start of the year to manage the classroom behaviors. Rules and procedures support teaching and learning and provide students with clear expectations and well-defined norms. The objective of preschool curriculum is to reinforce the achievement of ‘basic skills such as socialization process and personality development. The basic skills taught at this level are communication, social and other skills Reading, Writing, Counting and Critical thinking in preparation for primary schooling.
“Play is developmentally appropriate for primary-age children and can provide them with opportunities that enrich the learning experience” (Copple & Bredekamp 2009). Early childhood education holds two main focuses; a child-based focus and a family-based focus. Early childhood education has positive outcomes on the child through their learning experiences, and their growth and development. Based on the family, the results of early education happen through the communication that the family has with the educators and by the encouragement they get from within themselves, and also from the educators.
This would include everything from the way desks should be arranged and the order subjects are taught, to the type of activities given to enhance a lesson. Planning of these things will help classroom management run much more smoothly. Finally, classroom management requires consistency, particularly with discipline. Inconsistent teachers who discipline only half of the time it is needed, send mixed messages to that child as well as to his/her classmates. Teachers need to remember that following through with what they said helps the child remember that their undesirable behavior will not be tolerated and that there are consequences for their actions. Consistency is a skill that teachers should make sure they have when they step into a classroom. Flexibility, careful planning and consistency are key components, I think, that teachers would find helpful when dealing with classroom management.
It is important for a classroom teacher to set behavior goals for his or her students. Behavior goals should be directly related to the classroom management plan. Students should be expected to treat their peers and teachers with respect, show respect for classroom property, are kind and courteous in all speech and actions, work diligently to accomplish assigned tasks, and demonstrate self-respect and honesty. Establishing clear and consistent goals for the operation of the classroom helps to provide an atmosphere that is conducive to learning and lends itself to alleviating opportunities for misbehavior. As a teacher I will work to provide my students with positive goals for appropriate behavior. I will also clearly define the consequences for misbehavior so that students understand fully the repercussions for failing to act in accordance with the guidelines outlined in the classroom management plan.
My philosophy of classroom management is to allow students to be responsible for their own behavior at all times. I believe allowing students to be responsible for their behavior and actions allow them to have a sense of freedom. When students have freedom, they seem to be more successful and respectful. Classroom management is more successful when the class is student-centered. Students should be included in the planning of classroom rules, room arrangement, and communication should flow smoothly between teacher and student. I will discuss: the developmental themes in infancy, infant toddler curriculum, and the differences between preschool curriculum and appropriate infant toddler curriculum. The education of the young mind is an important step in preparing the child for future learning experiences. The evolution of early childhood education has changed how adults and parents view the importance of offering stimulating and exciting opportunities to the very young. Early childhood Education offers the young child learning experiences that benefit them throughout their educational career. They soon embark on a whole new world of learning. These children are not only experiencing standard brain growth, but verbal and physical skills as well. Early childhood education teachers use a variation of techniques for instructing. They use lesson plans, worksheets, and even teacher resources for these young minds.
As a child, I was a pill and a half. I know this now, and looking back it sure does make for some good stories. I started being a little shit early on—telling my dad I preferred lying to the truth because, in my own words, the truth was too boring. Early childhood is a time full of curiosity, exploration, creativity, excitement, and rapid development. During these formative years, children develop attitudes about education that remain with them for the rest of their lives (Kostelnik, Soderman, & Whiren, 2011). High quality early childhood education programs and highly effective, passionate teachers or care providers will not only promote young children’s development and academic achievement but will also foster a lifelong passion for learning. ECE programs and educators utilize learning centers to contribute to young children’s acquisition of literacy, numeracy, creative thinking, problem solving, and motor skills as well as a number of other skills and knowledge (Jarrett, 2010).
The center where I’m doing my placement it’s the JCC. The JCC campus is 32 acres and it offers different services to the community. The programs that the JCC offers are a childhood center, teen and youth programs, summer camps, a fitness center, sports teams, indoor-outdoor pools and events to help the community. The Siegel JCC is a non-profit center and one of their goals it’s to bring the community together. The mission of the JCC is to bring our community together and to be the hub of Jewish life in our region. They encourage social, physical, and intellectual growth in the center that is guided by Jewish values and culture. The center welcomes everyone and provides them with a positive environment.
Everyone has his or her own first day of kindergarten experiences. Some might have been more memorable while others still trying to forget. Mine was merely an observance and evaluation period. After I gave my mother a kiss goodbye, and placed my belongings in the cubbyhole I was ready to learn, but unfortunately the majority of the other students were not. Considering one can not get too accomplished over many loud high-pitched cries, I was forced to be patient and suffer silently from boredom.
Teachers should have a discipline plan before the school year begins. Effective discipline plan includes various techniques to avoid, support, and correct inappropriate behavior in the classroom.
Curriculum is content and experiences offered by a school. A preschool curriculum help children prepare for kindergarten by preparing and developing early literacy skills as well as social skills and many more. Florida Department of Education states pre- school curriculums should cover four main areas which are: Physical Development, Social and Emotional Development, Language, Communication and Lliteracy, and Cognitive Development. Physical development should work on building fine and gross motor skills.
