Danyelle Sayles Education Reform Grand Canyon University SPD 501: Graduate Studies in Special Education Professor Kimber Underdown December 18, 2023
Since the last 100 years, learning has changed. Education reform could be considered one of today’s most highly debated issues. Various factors contribute to the increased importance of Education reform compared to its significance in the past. To begin, the academic gap between students from families with lower incomes and their counterparts from families with higher incomes has remained stubbornly constant and, in some instances, has widened over the past several years. This disparity is partly caused by schools in urban areas being frequently under- resourced, which can lead to teaching and learning circumstances that are not up to pace with other schools' offerings. In addition, the dropout rate in urban schools remains unacceptably high, indicating that many pupils are not obtaining the education they require to succeed. Reform is necessary to minimize the number of students who drop out of school, close the achievement gap, and enhance teaching and learning circumstances. We can ensure that all students have access to a quality education that will prepare them for success in college and their professions if we take steps to improve urban schools and act to make those improvements. Various specific changes can be made to improve urban schools, and they can all be done. One example would be to increase financing for schools to supply them with the resources they require to improve the conditions in which teaching and learning occur. In addition, elevating the level of responsibility that teachers and school officials are held to can play a role in ensuring that pupils receive an education of sufficient caliber. Lastly, increasing parents' involvement in their children's academic lives can also help improve student accomplishment. If we take the necessary steps to implement these reforms, we can improve urban schools and ensure that all pupils receive the high-quality education they are entitled to. Common Characteristics Having the ability to lead is a must in any profession. In the field of education, leadership is of the utmost significance. The students are the followers of the
educational leader. A good leader will recognize the modern world's difficulties and plan their actions properly for the future. Students represent the world's population in the years to come. If they get the chance to learn in an excellent educational system, they can contribute more to the modern world. Supportive, loving, respectful, and authentic relationships can be built thanks to a leader or leaders within an educational institution. Because of this, everyone has the opportunity to be themselves gracefully and effortlessly. People are naturally drawn to wanting to join this community because it exudes an atmosphere of acceptance and harmony. Another trait that should be a non-negotiable need for urban schools is a culture of high student expectations. We can be motivated to work hard or to remain focused on the task at hand by having high expectations of ourselves, but we still need to act. Nothing of value can exist in the absence of activity. Students who are held to high standards can motivate themselves to work toward their goals, and even if they only succeed in meeting their objectives halfway, they will have made significant headway, which will, in turn, encourage them to continue moving forward. If they want to be good students, they need to have high expectations for themselves and be willing to act. Strategies for Education Reform Establishing programs for students to participate in after school is one action that school districts can take to begin the Education reform process. These programs are significant because they help close the achievement gap and allow children to be successful, both of which are necessary to close the gap. Students who participate in after- school programs can remain in a secure and encouraging atmosphere at the school for additional help in their academic and social-emotional lives. In the United States, there is a significant disparity in academic performance between students of white and students of color, particularly between kids of black and Latino descent. The discrepancy in academic performance between various groups of students is referred to as the achievement gap. The accomplishment gap is an issue in our society since it maintains inequality. Students who do not perform well in school have a higher risk of dropping out and a lower chance of having
