BUS443: QUALITY MGMT WK5 Disc1 In your discussion post, Compare Deming’s definition of quality (a product or a service possesses quality if it helps somebody and enjoys a good and sustainable market) with the definition in Chapter 1. The meaning of quality continues to evolve as the quality profession grows and matures. Neither consultants nor business professionals agree on a universal definition. The Quality Improvement Glossary defines quality as “a subjective term for which each person has his or her own definition. Quality can be defined from six different perspectives: transcendent, product, value, user, manufacturing, and customer" Discuss the importance of quality. Consumer happiness, which eventually leads to customer loyalty, depends on quality. An organization can design a product or service that customers want with the help of quality management. Quality proves that the organization achieves increased revenues and productivity. By exceeding expectations, Ford Motor Company has been able to establish a reputation for itself as a brand that stands out in the auto industry. Explain how the organization you have selected defines and applies quality. The J.D. Power Initial Quality Study SM (IQS) serves as   the industry benchmark for new-vehicle quality measured at 90 days of ownership. Initial Quality has proven to be an excellent predictor of long-term reliability, which has a significant impact on owner satisfaction, advocacy (NPS), and ultimate loyalty. Initial quality is   measured by the number of problems experienced per 100 vehicles (PP100) during the first 90 days of ownership, with a lower score reflecting higher quality. The study is based on a 223-question battery organized into nine vehicle categories: infotainment; features, controls, and displays; exterior; driving assistance; interior; powertrain; seats; driving experience; and climate. Ford Motor Company has been able to apply quality to its automobiles by consistently outperforming peers in standard studies, participating in market- based surveys, and taking note of customer feedback.
Explain some of the organization’s practices used in managing human assets, and in sharing data and information with employees, customers, and suppliers. According to research, Ford promotes the social dimension of human progress in four main ways (or "ends"): preserving human rights, protecting human health, safety, and wellbeing; increasing access to mobility (which represents the “social good” that the company’s products and services provide), and enhancing economic prosperity in the community.  These four "ends" stand for the core of Ford's Model of Human Progress, which is portrayed as a wheel given the setting of mobility. Discuss how the organization aligns its business practices with key organizational objectives. The organizational matrix used by Ford Motor Company makes it possible for it to efficiently coordinate and operationalize its numerous activities. The business is managed vertically, with the president serving as the chair, moving up to the executive vice president, and then horizontally, with vice presidents serving as department heads. Describe how well the organization performs and whether the performance gives them a competitive advantage. Mulally's One Ford innovation platform consisted of four main points: 1)   bring all Ford employees together as a global team; 2) leverage Ford's unique automotive knowledge and assets; 3) build cars and trucks that people wanted and valued; and 4) arrange the significant financing necessary to pay for it all. Ford seeks to create value for its customers by   delivering products at a lower cost than its competitors, enabling Ford to offer lower prices to its customers. References: Evans, J.
