Frank J. Wilstach, comp. A Dictionary of Similes. 1916.

Mrs. Norton

Faint and forlorn … like the breath of a spirit sighing.

Holy as heaven a mother’s tender love.

An echo returned on the cold gray morn,
Like the breath of a spirit sighing.

Soars, like a wild bird from a cypress bough, into the poets’ heaven.

A softness like the atmosphere of dreams.

Vanished like the feathery snow in summer’s running brooks.
