Frank J. Wilstach, comp. A Dictionary of Similes. 1916.

Eugene Fitch Ware

Folded up as folds a primrose when the gates of day are shut.

They glitter in my fancy like the distant multihedral
Steeples, domes and sunlit turrets of some beautiful cathedral.

Peel, like slippery elms in spring.

As snug as a snag in a bog.

Volatile, like autumn leaves.
