Frank J. Wilstach, comp. A Dictionary of Similes. 1916.

Ariosto

Upon her tender cheek the mingled dye is scattered, of the lily and the rose.

Firm as the budding fruit.

The spotless maid is like the blooming rose
Which on its native stem unsullied grows.

A death-like paleness … like one who trembling waits his fatal doom.

Shining like glowing flame.
