Expert Answer

Step 1

Ethnocentrism is described as an individual's act of judging or deeming someone else's culture based on his or her own culture.

Positive- It provides assurance and confidence of a specific culture. It helps a specific group to remain centered and cohesive.

Negative-It affects "inter-cultural communication". Individual believes that their culture is better than that of someone else's.

Cultural relativism: It is determined as a phenomenon that states an individual's values, beliefs, and practices needs to be understood by his or her own culture, instead of being judged by someone else's culture criteria's.

Positive- It creates a specific society free from any sort of judgement. It eliminates "negative judgements" from people's interaction completely.

Negative-People from different culture can have different options that can lead to create a negative connection between the two.

Step 2

The main reason of people finding it difficult to practice "cultural relativism" is that people are somewhat ethnocentric innately or by birth. However, people find it difficult to get beyond the prejudices that they have developed over the years in their lives as a part of being socialized.

Step 3

The importance of collectivism or collectivist culture is that it emphasizes the goals and needs of the group of people or individual as a whole with respect to their desires and needs of every person. However, relationship with the members of a specified group and interconnectedness between them tends to paly a crucial role in ever individual's identity.

The statement that no culture is better than someone else's culture signifies that no one should give an opinion about someone else's culture as better or worse as it can lead to create differences and biasness.
