Chelsea Diggs TAX-655-X1450 Federal Income Tax of Corp 23TW1 TAX 655 Project Two Milestone Memo November 5, 2023 Tax Initiatives/ Strategies REFERENCE: Sage Green Company The Sage Green Company can qualify for multiple tax initiatives but based upon the current direction of the company there are two federal tax initiatives that would work well for the company. The first tax initiative that should be further explored is the depreciation credits. Sage Green utilized and purchased equipment to include but not limited to office furniture and computers. Section 179 is a deduction that allows Sage Green to deduct up to $1,080,000 of property that is utilized for the tax year. While the deduction can be large in maximum value it cannot be in full if it will create a net loss on the return. If the section 179 deduction will create a loss the deduction can be carried forward and deducted on the following years return. The next initiative that the Sage Green company would be a good candidate for is WOTC (Work opportunity tax credit). “The Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) is a federal tax credit available to employers for hiring and employing individuals from certain targeted groups who have faced significant barriers to employment. WOTC joins other workforce programs that incentivize workplace diversity and facilitate access to good jobs for American workers. The Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2021 (Section 113 of Division EE P.L. 116-260) authorized the extension of the WOTC until December 31, 2025.” (IRS, 2023) This federal tax credit will need to be explored for the current tax year and up to 2025. After December 31,2025 the credit will become null in void While the credit may seem as fast approaching this credit could possibly lead to state credits and incentives because it could potentially lead to job creation and real estate purchases, and investments. The state credits can reduce cost and may provide cash to help offset
Chelsea Diggs TAX-655-X1450 Federal Income Tax of Corp 23TW1 TAX 655 Project Two Milestone cost related to the items listed before. The incentives include but are not limited to utility rate deductions, cash grants and property and sales/use tax abatement. These two initiatives described above are the most beneficial to Sage Green. They provide multiple benefits over more than just the current year of taxation. Another advantage is that both initiatives provide an opportunity for expansion and growth if done within the next two to three reporting tax years. The least beneficial tax incentive is the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 (IRA), that was enacted on August 16, 2022. This tax credit is the least desirable because Sage green does manufacture or currently participates in renewable energy.
