MODULE 6 In the video demonstration above we notice that as air is blown through the straw it accelerates towards the bottom card. According to Bernoulli's principle, this faster moving air has a lower pressure than the still air beneath the card. The high pressure air on the bottom of the card causes a force to push up on the card (lift). What happened is as air was blown into the straw it sped up, lost pressure and consequently its power to push down on the bottom card. All the while, the high pressure air beneath the bottom card is pushing up along the bottom of the card so much so that it holds the two cards together. The natural tendency of air is to flow from a region of high pressure to low pressure hence that upward flow. When the blowing stops, gravity takes over as there is no opposing force; we see the card fall. This toy is a great demonstration of Bernoulli's principle and the concept of lift.
