Program of Study: Doctor of Philosophy with a concentration in Health & Human Development Social Problem: The scholarly community does not know the extent of the relationship between military children and non-military children’s well- being. Children of military families face many challenges. It is essential that children of military personal are prepared and aware of the challenges that may arise with duty. What mechanisms do military parents characterize as useful to help their child "cope"? and or “adjust". Quantitative Research Problem: The scholarly community does not know the extent of the relationship between military children as adults and non- military children’s well-being as adults. Quantitative Research Purpose: This quantitative study aims to examine the extent of the relationship between children of military personnel well- being and the well-being of civilian children as adults. Quantitative Research Question: What is the extent of the difference in coping skills between adults who grew up as children of military parents and those who did not. Quantitative Research Problem: The scholarly community does not know the extent of the relationship between military children and non-military children’s well-being. Quantitative Research Purpose: The purpose of this quantitative study is to examine the extent of the relationship between the well-being of military children and children that are non-military. Quantitative Research Question: What is the extent of difference in military children’s well-being, then those of civilian children? (Williamson et al., 2018) Theoretical Framework: The model "Theory of Cognitive Appraisal"was proposed by Lazarus and Folkman in 1984 and it explained the mental process which influence of the stressors. According to Richard Lazarus, stress is a two-way process; it involves the production of stressors by the environment, and the response of an individual subjected to these stressors (Sincero, 2012) Quantitative Research Design: For this study I would conduct a correlational research design. This study is to investigate the relationship between its direct comparison of military and non-military connected youth’s well-being. Quantitative Sampling Strategy: For this study, the unique sampling strategy will reflect the differences of unique, atypical, perhaps rare attributes or occurrences of the phenomenon of interest between military
and non-military children who grew into adulthood (Merriam & Tisdell, 2016, p. 97). Quantitative Data Collection Method: To complete this study, demographic paperwork will be given out during the beginning of the school year for ages K-12. This demographic paperwork will include the option of stating if one is connected to the military. With obtaining this information, school staff and faculty are able to identify those youth of military connections and those of civilian families. The collection method would be conducted in questionnaire / survey form. Qualitative Research Problem : The scholarly community does not know the difference in well-being for military children versus their non-military as adults. Qualitative Research Purpose: The purpose of this qualitative study is to examine how the military affiliated children as adults describe their psychological and well-being. Qualitative Research Question: The results of military children adults well-being, being discovered in significance to understand the difference versus non-military children adults. Qualitative Research Design: An Ethnography design study would be conducted, this design research In addition to the basic objectives and purpose “strives to understand the interaction of individuals not just with others, but also with the culture of the society in which they live” (Merriam & Tisdell, 2016, p. 24) , it is my goal to understand that extent in which military children as adults differ psychologically with their well-being versus nonmilitary children as adults wellbeing. I also believe a case study could work along side this specific research design, Qualitative Sampling Strategy: The focus of this study is to describe the psychological and well-being of military children as adults in comparison to non-military children ss adults. This research purpose utilizing the qualitative sampling strategy based on unique, atypical, perhaps rare attributes or occurrences of the phenomenon of interest” (Merriam & Tisdell, 2016, p. 97) Qualitative Data Collection Method: To collect data for this study, initially observation such as Field notes of activities or behaviors “in the setting where the phenomenon of interest naturally occurs” (Merriam & Tisdell, 2016, p. 137). After, carefully reviewing data and making considerations, the demographic questionnaires utilized in the research design will aid in the observations to form a theory of validity.
