Lab #1 The Human Body: An Orientation
Name: ____________________________ Section: ______
This laboratory session introduces the basic language of anatomy. Anatomy is the
language of medicine, and precision is fundamental when communicating about the
human body. Therefore, to prevent misunderstanding, health professionals use specialized
terms to describe the human body. Proficiency in the language of anatomy will not only
help with this course, but also throughout your career.
At the completion of this laboratory session, you should be able to do the following:
1.
Identify and describe the anatomical position.
2.
Demonstrate proficiency in describing locations of anatomical structures
using directional terms.
3.
Identify and describe the planes of section used in anatomy and radiological
images.
4.
Locate and describe the major body regions.
5.
Identify and describe body cavities and serous membranes.
6.
Identify the organ systems, their functions, and the major organs in each
system.
