Anatomy & Physiology I - Lab 3 COMPLETE the table (hand-written & on paper) on page 2 BEFORE lab for full prelab points! Students who have not taken their microscope quiz will do so this lab-see checklist 2 for details. Ex. 6 – Tissues Ex. 7 – Integumentary System You are encouraged to sketch these tissues or any slide to help you identify them. Activities: Completed Ex. 6: You should know a function and location for each tissue type. 1. Activity 1 : You will examine the slides listed in lab. - simple squamous epithelium-lung - simple cuboidal epithelium - simple columnar epithelium - pseudostratified columnar epithelium - stratified squamous (non-keratinized and keratinized) epithelium - transitional epithelium 2. Activity 2 : You will examine these slides in lab: - mesenchyme (embryonic connective tissue)-on demo - areolar connective tissue - adipose connective tissue - reticular connective tissue - dense regular (white fibrous) connective tissue - dense irregular (skin dermis) connective tissue - blood (identify red blood cells and white blood cells) 3. You will study cartilage and bone tissues later in the course, so just read about these connective tissues at this time. 4. Activity 3 : Examine these slides: - giant multipolar motor neuron - pyramidal cells of cerebrum 5. You will study muscle tissue later in the course, so just read about muscle tissue at this time. Ex. 7: 6. Activity 1 : Identify structures of the skin using models and Fig. 7.1 and 7.2. For the five epidermal layers, learn the stratum corneum and stratum basale only, and omit the other three. Identify the structures listed on the next page wherever they appear. 7. Examine the skin model showing degrees of burns so you can distinguish levels of damage of 1 st , 2 nd , and 3 rd degree burns. -Use ‘Evaluating Burns’ document, posted on pages 3 & 4 of this checklist, to examine burn classification. (This is not in lab manual.) 8. Activity 3 and Activity 4 : Examine these slides in lab: - human scalp white identify hair follicles, eccrine sweat glands & sebaceous glands - pigmented and non-pigmented skin (slide has a section of pigmented and non-
pigmented skin on the same slide!) -Identify the structures listed on the next page wherever they appear. List of Structures to identify in Exercise 7 (Integumentary System): Identify on skin models, figures, charts or slides: Epidermis Stratum corneum Tactile (Meissner) corpuscle Stratum basale Merocrine (eccrine) sweat gland Melanin granules Lamellar (Pacinian) corpuscle Papillary layer of dermis Shaft of hair follicle Areolar loose connective tissue Sebaceous gland Dermal papillae Arrector pili muscle Reticular layer of dermis Dense irregular connective tissue Subcutaneous layer (hypodermis) Adipose connective tissue COMPLETE this table BEFORE lab for full prelab points! No plagiarism. Must be hand-written and presented on paper for credit. Tissue Type Location Function Description Simple squamous epithelium Simple cuboidal epithelium Simple columnar epithelium Pseudostratified columnar epithelium Stratified squamous epithelium Keratinized Stratified squamous epithelium Non-keratinized Transitional epithelium Areolar connective tissue Adipose connective tissue Reticular connective tissue Dense regular connective tissue Dense irregular connective tissue Blood connective tissue Nervous: Giant multipolar neuron Nervous: Pyramidal cell
