HUM 102 Module Two Project Proposal
Part One: Choose the Creative Works
1.
Describe the two creative works
. Feel free to elaborate, but make sure you include these three items:
A.
Your chosen topic (mental health, diversity, or activism) B.
The names of the chosen creative works C.
Why you chose those creative works
I chose the topic of diversity for my project. It is a broad topic that doesn’t involve certain individuals, but all individuals. My first creative work I chose to address my chosen topic is the film To Kill a Mockingbird. The story has several aspects of diversity present ranging from race to social status. It also shows how prejudice can lead to mistreatment of others and result in injustice. The second creative work I chose was the song by Lady Gaga “Born This Way.” This song encompasses diversity by expressing the acceptance of others, no matter their origins or lifestyle. 2.
Describe how the chosen creative works can be used to understand the topic. A.
How do the different humanities subject areas (visual, literary, and performing arts) approach the topic? To Kill a Mockingbird
was originally a book written by Harpe Lee in 1960, however I chose the film version because of the visual aspect. Reading requires a sense of imagination and readers can interpret the writings of authors differently. The visual creative work of this story makes for a more impactful delivery. The film illustrates diversity in settings of family, race, and social status in a way that is easy to comprehend, being that the whole story involves children trying to understand their surroundings. The song “Born This Way” uses a religious approach to diversity citing that we are how God made us and that we should love ourselves. It also implies that loving ourselves and understanding the differences in others allows us to be more loving and accepting. References
