Mentors Interview Time/Place: 4:30pm/ in-person Mentoring is an opportunity to receive a different perspective, be held accountable, and to get good, godly advice.
1
A mentor takes on a more challenging role than that of a master who guides an apprentice.
2
The mentor becomes both a friend and a role model to a mentee at a time in the young person’s life when the influence of peers is of the utmost importance.

My interviewees were Dr. Spencer and Minister Davis. Dr. Spencer received his Doctoral degree from School of Theology. Spencer is a chaplain, Pastor of Lives Ministry, Life Coach, mentor, author, he served in the United States Navy, and lives. He has been mentoring individuals over two decades. Minister Davis, is the Co-founder, Human Resource Personnel, and Founder for Hopkins Heart of Gold Foundation, a minister of Fellowship Minister, the administrator for Taking It to the Streets Ministry, and she resides in Mississippi. Jackie have been mentoring/counseling young ladies for some years. The mentors do Christian and secular mentorship. Both of the interviewees I spoke with, loves mentoring people and said they will continue to do so. Dr. Spencer was the person I interviewed first. The question I asked him does he like being the mentor or mentee? He replied he has been on both sides of the table. There are times when the mentor need to be the mentee. He went on to say when he is mentoring, the best thing for him to do is to be in tune with the Holy Spirit, you got to move self out of the way to make sure you are not saying anything out of the will of God. He believes being led by the Holy Spirit is imperative for such a time is this. Because this really could be vital prospect of connection 1

beginnings. The connections through mentoring should be a symbiotic correlation. Which means,
the person depends on each other or maybe not just for survival, but also all emotional support.”

As a life coach, there are mentee giving to him for mentorship. He mentor couples, boys, and people in the ministry and in the community. Once the connection is established, Spencer set
goals for him and the mentee. In the book of 2
nd Timothy 3:14, But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it.
5
When Spencer has to mentor, he tends to do it in a group setting, over the phone, going to
lunch (adults mentoring), after church, through zoom, whenever it is convenient for the both of them. When he mentors the boys, the time frame usually 30 to 45 minutes and the adult men could last an hour. Dr. Spencer spent his time wisely with the boys and men. He will used a whiteboard to write down how they are feeling and what spark the person to feel as such, in order to get to the root of problem so a solution can be solved by talking it out. Also, they work on breathing techniques to help calm the person down. After the session is over, the following week they will sum up what took place prior meeting and then they would proceed with the meeting. When your mentees feel they are valued and worth your time and effort, you are most likely to connect.
