Introduction
When it comes to being in the Mental Health field there are many rules and obligations that as counselors must adhere to ethically and to legal standards of being a part of the Codes of Practice. One responsibility that a counselor must ensure to do is protect the client and their dignity and promote welfare (ACA, 2014). In doing so, clients can remain safe through treatment
in order to ensure they are safe and do not build walls towards the counselor and not trusting the counselor. As there are many ethical issues that can arise when it comes to assessments and their designs. In the paper, it will go into detail on several ethical issues and the use of psychological assessments. Also providing insights into ways to avoid these ethical issues in many psychological assessments, as well as the learning of clinicians assessing behaviors originating from these cultures/subcultures. As well as, those aspects of the client’s developments that can have an impact on a client assessment choice to further more on ethical issues that are addressed within the American Counseling Association Code of Ethics. How to Avoid Ethical Issues in Psychological Assessments As it comes to avoiding ethical issues, there are three ways a counselor should take into consideration. The first ethical issue is ensuring the counselor's scope of practice. As counselors, it is important to ensure that they are utilizing tests and assessments in the proper way and have been competent while doing so. In which a counselor utilizes tests and assessments and has the proper training. As well as avoiding those tests and assessments with having no knowledge or training in the use of them. This fact would help in promoting welfare of the clients and avoiding
harm.
Another ethical issue that should be considered is the work of confidentiality in assessments. As it is important to keep the client's confidentiality as a top priority as well.

A counselor may need to break confidentiality if it was to be asked or requested by law enforcement or a legal. Finally, a third ethical issue concerns issues of multiculturalism and diversity. Counselors
are to consider various needs when it comes to the diversity of their clients as well as being aware of their multicultural competency. When it comes to Lassiter & Chang (2006), they explain in detail that culturally competent counselors are less likely to raise or reinforce stereotypes and demonstrate behavior-based behaviors to clients. As a counselor makes major efforts in being multiculturally competent comes to being aware of assessment issues as well as interventions. Competent counselors become more aware of their diagnoses of clients and approach their assessments with caution (Lassiter & Chang, 2006).
Assessing Behaviors that Stem from Cultures or Subcultures As it is important for a professional in the Mental Health field in avoiding any ethical issues with psychological assessments. With many counselors there are strategies that can be used in doing so and following those ethical standards. As a counselor is in the process of an assessment, it would be necessary to build an environment for the client that is made of trust and assurance of safety when it comes to the rapport.
